The Family Birthday

Not content with one party, Kay had a family lunch to celebrate her great age on Sunday. It was at a fancy restaurant where we had our own room and or own personal butler. Way above my station I might say, but considering there 21 of us ranging in age from 90 years to 11 months, it was probably a good move. The kids could run wild, inside and out and there was lots of room to mix and chat.

There was some commotion as we arrived though, we were greeted by a somewhat concerned looking Alan and the butler David. 'Where have you been, we were worried' We were due at 1.30pm and it was 1.20pm, so where was the problem? Turns out the party began at 12.30pm for a 1.30pm sit down, but nobody had told us that bit, we only ever heard 1.30pm....
The lunch was most flavoursome and everything ran well.
Lamb stuffed with leeks

Roast beef and Yorkshire Pudding

Kay stood up and made a speech which brought her girls to tears. Lovely.

We went back to Alan and Elaine's for coffee and cake. The cake was baked by Sarah, number 1 granddaughter and iced by Rachel, number 2 granddaughter. A job well done and very tasty.

All the kids ran silly yet again in a very familiar setting, they spend a lot of time at their grandparents house and they all get on pretty well, with just the odd spat.

By 6pm, Kay was fading fast, not surprisingly, so John and I drove her home. It was a lengthy drive, 1 hour one way and then another 75 minutes home, but it was worth it to see her have such a lovely day and to be part of it.

A proud nephew
