Saint Emillion

A day trip to St Emillion, only 35 mins by train. Board the train early along with many other frenzied French, they are a very busy people.
You know when you are in the train and the person across from you speaks so loudly, you feel they don't really need a phone, you're sure the person at the other end can probably here them anyway....well yes there's one of those in our carriage. Sadly for her, the assertive black woman in front of us, gets up, walks over to yapping girl, shakes her finger at her and tells her to quieten down, her phone conversation does not interest her! Peace for all.
I might try this in Melbourne, or maybe not.
St Emillion is a lovely little town specialising in wine tasting, coffee shops and a fantabulous knife shop. We opted for 3, 2, and opted out of 1! It's very hilly with an old fort, a cathedral and ruins. It dates back to the 2nd Century when Romans planted the first vines here.
Our first impression was the view of the vineyards and this wonderful old house, (1) still in good condition.
Petit Milou had his day out to SE and very much enjoyed the scenery (2). Those intriguing cobble stone streets that you just need to walk up to see where it leads (3)
We walked for 5 hours and had a perfectly lovely day

Picnic

Having said ungrateful things about cheese previously, one cannot live without it........

Slideshow

Just a sample of what Bordeaux has to offer......

A little bit of Italian

Sometimes all that cheese and baguette just gets a bit much. One can only fit so much Fois Gras in, so as usual we resort to rice, Yum.....

Why Bother...

You don't get much sillier than this, why even bother having a car you might say. But for those of you who have been here, this is my size transport. Some of the streets are so small even this little guy couldn't get through....

Sghtseeing in Bordeaux

A walk in the sun along the Promenade. It's a Sunday and every man and his dog is out, but walk at your own peril..... People meandering, bicycles whizzing by, skaters flashing by (very fast), skateborders, children (cause not really people) running along, but not looking where they're going, little dogs, not on leads, looking for attention. It's a feast for the eyes in more ways than one.

We saw this little fellow swimming along having a wonderful time. He swam for a very long time and then got out to sun himself and have a bath.

It's a funny thing here, as in England, there are dogs everywhere. Some walk, some get carried, some ride in bicycles, but they are very much loved.
I suppose because so many of the town folk live in apartments the city parks and gardens are their  back yards and they make the most of them. A large cruise liner came in while we were walking which caused a good deal of interest. Bordeaux is a popular destination for a night stopover.

Bordeaux Apartment

And we open the door......
Ok, this one has worked out. Sometimes photos don't always look the same as the real thing, wide angle lenses are the friend of the Real Estate agent.
However, this is spacious, clean and very well decked out. We are 'appy little Vegemites.
What is French for Vegemite?
